  1. The thing that was clear to me is that the police officer was very caring and patient towards the arrestee who clearly has mental issues. (Whether the issues are brought on by meth use doesn’t matter.) He treated her as a fellow human being. I hope she gets the help she needs, both for the addiction and for any underlying problems.

  2. I think the daughter is done making excuses for her mom. Of course she still cares about her. But I got a whiff of Alanon from the couple. They’ve set boundaries and calling the cops was part of that.

  5. Gotta be fair, it was refreshing to hear. I get why he wouldn’t admit he was intoxicated, though. Any lawyer will tell you to say nothing and admit nothing. But given the situation, I don’t know how you could defend against hit-and-run, operating while intoxicated, and operating the UTV on a prohibited trail. Just like the victim, the driver doesn’t have a leg to stand on. Cooperating and being honest was probably a good idea.

  8.  @coloradohikertrash9958  Nah. Think about it a moment. How many DNR officers have there ever been? How many of those have access to books? Chances are, at least one has thrown a book at someone, for whatever reason. Maybe not “the book”, but A book.

  11. Right now (or a few months ago, given that the trial date has passed), the defense attorney and the prosecutor are working out a plea deal. I doubt this went to trial. That’s the game: hit the defendant with maximal charges so you can knock off some charges for a guilty plea. The defense is thinking about the penalties and how to minimize them. The number of charges is not as important because the penalties (jail time) usually run concurrently. This case is going to be tough on the defense, because everything seems pretty clew cut.
