  5. The guy had suffered some personal loss aggravated by a domestic crisis. His father died and then his wife divorced him. I don’t think it’s anything like a psychotic break, but he was in mental and notional crisis. It doesn’t excuse him—thousands of people go through crises everyday and don’t steal airplanes and threaten to harm people. But his crisis wasn’t anything so trivial as not passing his private pilot exam. I hope he will get help while he is serving his time, maybe even spend some time in a psych ward before serving his time in prison.

  6. What’s a control panel on an aircraft? Do you mean the cockpit? Do you do your own work on your car or do you take it to a mechanic and make sure the mechanic doesn’t get into the driver’s seat?
