Trump’s just fundraising, riling up the rubes to give him money.

Constitutionally, States have the right to determine their own election parameters. Most states’ legislatures determine their own congressional district boundaries. If you want to change this, you have to invest time and effort at the state level (and I would urge voters of both parties to do this—it’s really a bipartisan issue).

@johnhopkins3961 I think you’re right, but even if the don’t want these more progressive policies, they still want a solution. Maybe a solution can be found that is somewhere between M4A and current dysfunction? Just a thought. Maybe there is a workable solution between Green New Deal and burying our heads in the sand? Would be nice. One of the strengths of a democratic capitalist system is that we can take useful components from policies with which we don’t agree generally. We don’t have to be ideologically brittle. Most people have both liberal and conservative values and we should accept that, rather than try to eradicate one side or the other of ourselves.

@johnhopkins3961 Disagree with you there about the meaning of his loss in the popular vote. Yes, character played an important part in people’s decision. But that same character was the basis for Trump’s “policies”, if you want to call them that. It seems to me that Trump’s policies were based on his whims and his situational political needs. Only after the fact did his advisers try to force the Trumpist square pegs into conservative round holes. Look at the 2020 GOP platform, for example. 😆😖 Bottom line: The conservative voters that abandoned Trump abandoned him for more reasons than just character. They saw his incompetence in 2020, and they realized he regularly abandons principles when they didn’t fit his whims of the moment.

Lucius McLicious What tiny slim majority are you talking about? This was actually a typical election in terms of the numbers. It was the delay processing mail in votes that was unusual but understandable.

I don’t know where Romney gets it, but I would say most normal people have both conservative and liberal values, in different measures. The artificial division of those values into parties is a simplification, perhaps a damaging oversimplification as we’ve been seeing recently.
