Not quite. After the U.S. left, the South Vietnamese government continued to receive military supplies from the U.S. It is this equipment that fell into the hands of the VPA, not abandoned U.S. equipment.

@thedausthed Jack uses ESA (emotional support armor). I keep encouraging him to put some reactive armor under his helmet. 🤯

An issue with sending Challengers or Abrams is that they require months of retraining of tank crews to use the equipment. This was also a problem with the Polish MiGs. They would need to be reconfigured to Ukrainian configuration or the pilots would need to be retrained on Polish systems. The shoulder fired ATGMs and MANPADS benefit is that soldiers could be trained to use them relatively quickly. That said, we might not see a big Russian push until after the wet season in Ukraine. As we’ve heard, the spring thaw is ongoing, and mud makes offensive operations more difficult. There might be time to introduce these unfamiliar-to-Ukraine systems and get the soldiers trained in time for a Russian offensive. However, Russian military has not shown itself to be strategically adept, so an attack could come at any time, even when conditions are terrible.

@vn01208503 PAVN put it to good use. Nobody in the U.S. should complain. We owed you for reparations, anyway.

@edscmidt5193 Your dad was Army and he was in the DMZ? And he had a “CAR16”? Huh. I hate to call you a liar, but something doesn’t smell right about your story. Maybe you meant to say he was Marine? Or maybe you were trying to suggest your pop was in SOG, and thus the crap about the “CAR16”. Do your research and resubmit your story.

@tcp0023 That’s not the same as training crews on specific equipment.
