@igorigor213 I think the endurance the Vietnamese displayed over the decades of their anti-colonial was against the French and later the U.S. was even more impressive. Sadly, the lesson seems lost on Russia, which is showing a blindness and arrogance similar to what my country showed then. Incidentally, after Vietnam was unified, it invaded Cambodia in 1979 for political reasons, but also to end the genocide initiated by Pol Pot. The Chinese war was China’s attempt to pressure Vietnam to stop—and didn’t work. Vietnam occupied Cambodia for 10 years. I know almost nothing about Vietnam’s occupation of Cambodia, and whether it was humane or brutal. I don’t know if it was justified or unjustified (although stopping the genocide tilts me towards justified). But I do know that throughout Vietnam’s history, it has invaded Cambodia at various times.
