@e.o.9094 This. It’s a glass half empty/full (or 1/3 vs 2/3). Amongst Republicans, 33% hold Trump responsible for the Capitol riots. There is some evidence this bleeding of support is continuing. I hope the evidence is correct and representative of reality, for the sake of the brainwashed, but even losing 33% does not bode well for the GOP.

@WestCoasting206 Wilson was recently on the Al Franken podcast (recorded just before the attack on the Capitol), and I was struck by his response to some of Franken’s questions. Franken was taking him to task for his history as a GOP operative (in that biting but humorous style he has*). There were some very uncomfortable moments. I could almost feel Rick Wilson squirming before answering. I can well believe that Wilson is wrestling with these very questions about his culpability from his reactions. There wasn’t any chest beating mea culpas per se. There was some admitting of fault. Some making of excuses. But the uncomfortable pauses spoke volumes to me—it was someone thinking, not jumping to his own defense. So as you hold people accountable (as you should), watch for those that are going through the process of holding themselves accountable. They’re the good ones. *Franken’s wit is devasting. He wields his rapier sarcasm like an artist. I think Rick was hoping for a let’s-hate-the-GOP love fest, but Franken wasn’t having it until he made him answer those difficult questions.

They’ve been purging “dissident” conservatives for a while now, even prior to Trump’s election. The rabid seditionists are the heart and soul of the Trump GOP. They remain loyal to Trump, which is all that matters. There are a handful of dissident Republicans that have managed to stay in office. The good news is that 30% of Republicans think Trump is responsible for the attack on the Capitol. That said, I don’t think two GOPs are viable. The only path the Trump GOP has is violence.

It’s Molly’s job to control the dogs on Rick and Molly’s podcast. I don’t know how she does it remotely, but it seems to work.

YouTube Moderator You’re a Russian Troll, fomenting division, whether you know it or not. No more attention for you.

@StopWhining491 Years of purity purges even as the conservative values were hollowed out and corrupted, and the label “conservative” was twisted to mean a tribal affiliation, not a set of principles. The GOP gives lip service to conservatism, but it’s a front for their grasping authoritarianism and cult of personality. Actual conservatives are moderates and stand closer to liberals when you compare them to the fascists that stole the conservative banner. I call myself a “moderate conservative” with the rueful knowledge that “conservatism” has been stolen and stained.

Clearly you’re not familiar with baseball.

@brucebrewer36 This isn’t the actual case. He does support Democrat candidates, and with more than words. Look at his work with the Lincoln Project, which has been targeting conservatives over the past year, conservatives uneasy and becoming disillusioned with the GOP, especially Trump. The Lincoln Projects, and other anti Trump conservative groups should be credited with peeling off a percentage of Republican voters from Trump (not to mention the Republican incumbents in the Georgia runoffs). This percentage is not insignificant in tight races. It’s valid to have reservations about Rick Wilson because of his history as a GOP campaign operative. But please also recognize what he’s been doing for the past four years, as an individual and with the Lincoln Project.

There are conservatives that appear or identify as “moderate conservatives” because the GOP has gone so deep into extreme right wing fascist John Birch cloud cuckoo land. You are right to recognize them as conservatives, but I also hope you recognize they have more in common with liberals than they do the fascists that own the current GOP (and I mean literally own it, despite a handful of dissident Republican office holders). The bedrock of American conservatism is the same as that of American liberals and progressives: Constitutional Democracy. Call conservatives whatever your want, but understand that many of them are with you in the fight for our country.

You might be right. But here’s why I think you’re wrong. 😉 The Democratic Party is already a coalition of factions (which is why there’s always, ALWAYS been so much infighting). If the “green-progressive” faction can deliver more votes in upcoming elections, they’ll have correspondingly more power. If they can cooperate and form alliances with other factions, they’ll share in more power within the party. You might think of the Democratic Party as a quasi parliamentarian system in this way. The “third” parties in the U.S. have been mostly inconsequential. If you consider yourself something along the lines of a green progressive, you might consider joining the Democratic Party and supporting the green-progressive faction within it. Just a thought!
