  1. The Culture War is a misnomer, although it is indeed a war. It is an attack on democratic values by those that wish to hold dictatorial power over others. It is still a political fight, although we have seen violent skirmishes initiated by the extremes. The would be dictatorship has carefully prepared the battleground, but we still have the superior tools of democracy to fight their authoritarian ambitions. “Culture War” conceals their true nature. It’s only in part that they want to impose their culture on us all. They really want to impose their will on us. We can defeat them, but the sooner the better. The longer we dally, the harder it will be.

  2. Agreed. I don’t want to “both sides” the extremes. Clearly one extreme has gained control of the GOP. But embracing the other extreme isn’t the solution. Both extremes lead to dictatorship. Maybe we should stop thinking of our politics as divided between two poles with us in the center, pulled in either direction. We should thing of ourselves as the center of power. We haven’t yet lost the tools that give us centrists our power—our constitutional government, our democratic institutions, the rule of law. They are being eroded, but we can still use them to halt the authoritarians (of both sides).
