@jet100a Not to mention they chased him down in their cars, and got out of their cars with guns drawn. The victim was at no point a threat to these men, while they acted in a threatening manner from the start. They didn’t follow him from a safe distance in their cars, they hunted him down. There are no self defense arguments the killers can make, as they initiated and escalated the incident. What are they going to say? “While I was assaulting the man, I felt threatened”? These scum are cold blooded killers.

They say it in the interest of justice, not just because of fears of lawsuits. These killers will be tried by a jury. If that jury has been tainted or members of it have prejudged the case based on evidence they’ve seen outside the courtroom, it’s grounds for appeal and/or moving the trial, and/or delaying the trial. And there’s even a chance the killers could go free on a technicality. If you want to see justice done as quickly as possible, maybe stop criticizing media use of the word “alleged”. You and I can call it as we see it, but others more involved are publicly constrained. What you want them to do would slow down the process, and could even result in justice denied.

If you are not used to legalese by now, I don’t know what to tell you. Until the case is ultimately decided by a jury, the defense is allowed to present its interpretation of events. An ethical journalist will hedge with legal language like “alleged”, because there is still a possibility that the defense’s version of events will prevail. An ethical journalist will be cautious with their reporting, because they don’t want to influence the “jury pool”—the citizens from whom a jury will be selected—causing the jury to prejudge the case.
