@JaceBass territory supposedly controlled by Russia, right? Russia doesn’t have the manpower to both occupy (control) territory it has gained and continue advancing towards its strategic objectives. Nor does it have sufficient quantities of troops to maintain a broad front. It’s constantly at risk of flanking maneuvers and surprise attacks in the rear. This is why Putin is resorting to criminal attacks on civilians. Terror is the only tactic he has left.

@chirpywiggins5796 I don’t think Ukraine or the West has a problem with time. Putin is the one who is running out of time, although he could continue his criminal aggression for weeks, maybe even months if he can get more troops, supplies and equipment to his forces in Ukraine. But even if this stretches on for years, Putin cannot win. Putin’s Army has to take and hold Ukraine. He’ll never pacify it. The Ukrainians can keep fighting until Putin’s Army leaves, which he will have to do, be it this week, next month, or next year. And while he is physically destroying Ukrainian cities, he’s also economically destroying his own country for years to come.

@unholyroller11 Agreed. The main difference here is one side has open societies with free and independent journalism. Independent press can fact check claims made by Ukraine and either debunk or confirm claims (or report them as unconfirmed). There’s a built in check on propaganda and a more or less open flow of information. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty good. Russia has no free and independent press. There are no independent journalists roaming behind the Russian lines checking Russian claims. Putin controls the media, and journalists reporting facts risk prison or, as has happened before, death. Whatever independent media that existed a month ago has been banned and criminalized. So, yes, there is propaganda on both sides, but only one side has a corrective mechanism to check the truthfulness of the propaganda.

It’s possible that Putin still doesn’t know how badly his invasion is going. He’s not merely buying his own B.S., he’s fully invested in t. He believes his own propaganda. Bearers of bad news tend to get killed, disappeared, or thrown in prison.

I would not be surprised if Russian soldiers have been ordered to shoot journalists, considering that the already detain and imprison journalists as spies inside of Russia.
