@Ikreisrond Historically, the main problem with implementation of Communism in the real world is that it requires a dictatorship. Those dictatorships have very bad records of human rights abuses and they have a nasty habit of becoming worse, not better. There are issues beyond that main one, such as inefficiencies of a top down command economy and a tendency towards corruption. Communism has this unfortunate tendency towards kleptocracy. An overall criticism of Communism is that it fails to account for the worse side of Human Nature, and requires morally and ethically perfect humans to be successful. I’m not saying democratic capitalism is perfect, but it offers advantages over Communism, if we use it as a tool for the advancement of society and not as a religion . (Not coincidentally, this is how we can beat the People’s Republic of China, if we stop worshipping capitalism as an inviolate religion. It’s worth pointing out a parallel between the GOP and Communists: both turn economic theories into religion, and use that quasi-religion to attack their political enemies. We clearly see this in Republican attacks on the Democratic Party with the accusations that it is a socialist party. This parallel is not a coincidence; recall Steve Bannon’s proclamation that he is a Leninist. He wasn’t speaking in jest.

@mcullet2 Is it? I’m quite hopeful that we’ve made a course correction based on the 2018 and 2020 elections. We are not done of course. The anti-democracy forces won’t go away on their own. But the very thing the rank-and-file GOP fascists claim we’ve lost—power of the people—is exactly what is powering our democratic counter revolution. If we honest conservatives and honest liberals keep doing what we’re doing as Americans fighting for democracy, we will win. But make no mistake, it will be a fight.

@Ikreisrond Thank you for reading my rather long comment. I understand your objection, but it’s not based on any real world practice of Revolutionary Communism. The idea of a factory controlled by its workers, electing its own management, is interesting. It could be put into practice within a capitalist system (and has been from time to time, afaik). Maybe the problem is that I’m using too narrow a definition of Communism. I mean Marx-Leninist Communism and it’s derivatives. I’m aware there are other philosophical branches with which I am less familiar (although I did read News from Nowhere, by William Morris (of the pre-Raphaelites). So before we go further, are we speaking of Revolutionary Marxist-Leninist Communism or something else?

GET RICK SCOTT — the newly named Republican Senatorial Committee chairman, in charge of fundraising for Republican senators. Target/tailor an ad to the big donors, focusing on Scott’s pro-insurrectionist vote against accepting Pennsylvania’s electoral votes hours after the riot, focusing on his enablement and support of Trump’s Lie . “Companies once supported the GOP because it was the pro-business party, but they are leaving in droves because the Trump GOP hurts their bottom lines. American business leaders want nothing to do with Scott or GOP senators that undermine our American principles of Democracy for their personal ambition. We know they are lying. It’s time to tell them we know they’re lying.” Something like that?

@updatedjustnow271 The GOP is a fascist endeavor that uses capitalism as a quasi-religion to attack political enemies. Really, it’s no different from Communist dictatorship that use Marxism as a religion to attack its political enemies. We’d all be much better off if we understood capitalism as a tool, as a socio-economic technology. View it as a motor, if you will indulge me. In a democratic society, WE decide the purpose of that motor. In a democratic society, we decide on how to adjust it and regulate it so that it benefits all. So, why doesn’t it? Capitalism is failing us because WE are doing a very poor job of practicing democracy. So called “late stage capitalism” is actually early stage authoritarianism. WE must do much better. The good news is that we have been doing better in the last two elections, but we have a long way to go to secure our democracy and regain control of the brakes, levers, and steering wheel of the motor.

@goodun2974 AFAIK, Trump takes pride in NEVER learning a lesson. That’s one of the laughable things about his apologists: they don’t actually hear what they don’t want to hear when it comes to Trump.
