Pence was skiing in Vail, Colorado. Mnuchin spent Christmas at his vacation home in Cabo San Lucas. And Trump was golfing in Mar a Lago. Are they back in Washington DC yet? Are they meeting with Senators to press the case for $1400 more? Trump isn’t an emperor who can just dictate his wishes, not even to the GOP. He has to make the case to the Republican Senate. Unless his refusal to sign was just a political stunt to make everybody suffer. If that’s the case, he doesn’t need to do anything, and should just stay in Mar a Lago.

The mechanism is in place. Assuming you’re elegible, you receive it in the form of a tax rebate, sort of like when you get a tax refund. With any luck, the $600 will start showing up in your bank account at the end of the week or early next week. The additional money will be delivered the same way, if the Senate passes the additional funding.

You’ll have to be more specific. Are you talking about the bill that already passed? The supplemental bill? The defense bill that was vetoed? Your broke ass car that needs a brake job?

To be honest, I hope the Dems take Georgia in any case. I registered as a Republican in 1982, and I am done with the GOP. The only major party fighting for the principles of American democracy is the Democrat Party.

@elizabethrobinson7148 Direct deposit will be just fine, thank you. You know, if the Senate had been willing to start negotiations last May, there would have been plenty of time to target relief payments to the most needy. Or to develop programs to stop foreclosures and evictions without bankrupting landlords or hurting banks. Or to coordinate food relief with relief for food growers. Unemployment could have been temporarily relieved by a nationwide test and trace system (that would have kept the lockdowns shorter if we gained an upper hand on the pandemic). So many things could have been done in late spring/early summer that could have avoided our current situation.

If you’re a citizen of the U.S., you owe it to yourself to get a basic education in civics. This might sound dumb, but start with Schoolhouse Rock videos, specifically the ones about government.

Thanks for covering my share! 👍

The House passed it. Pelosi and the House Dems are not on the spot. The ball is in the hands of Senate Majority Leader McConnell and Senate Republicans. Chances are, they’re going to fumble it—McConnell couldn’t even get his majority to pass the $500 Billion skinny bill back in October. Too many Republican Senators wanted $0 spent. So it’s accurate to say that Trump has put McConnell in a tough spot.
