It could be a number of different psychological conditions, not necessary narcissistic. But judging from the mother’s statement, “He says things he doesn’t mean,” there’s that dynamic of a family suffering from an abuser.

@GordonHitt Context is important here, but threatening to kill is immoral or mentally ill or both, take your pick. The mother saying “He says things he doesn’t mean,” sounds like the abused spouse would say, or someone covering for an alcoholic.

Savethe Ypepo If you actually read 1984, which I doubt, you missed the whole point of it.

They’re morally and psychologically under developed, with the mentality of 4-year olds. The reason these assholes get so easily radicalized and pulled into conspiracy theory movements is that the have infantile mentalities. Many are otherwise functional adults*, with successful businesses and careers—which doesn’t mean their character defects were hidden, by the way. Very young children are still being taught right and wrong. And for whatever reason (maybe bad parenting, maybe they’re just born that way), some kids never learn this lesson, or learn the wrong lesson. And these assholes and criminals are the result. *While this phenomenon isn’t exclusively baby boomers, there certainly seem to be a lot of the so called “me generation” in the group that attacked the Capitol.

@Code Man Judging from the arrests, a majority of these people were successful in their careers or businesses. Some came from wealthy families, some with connections to the powerful. They’re mostly college educated. Yet they were radicalized just as sure as a jihadi bomber is radicalized by ISIS. These are not people suffering from evictions and forced to live on the street, close to starvation. These are not people that worry about police brutality or that (previous to January 6th) they’ll be treated unfairly by the justice system. This was not a revolution of the downtrodden, it was a violent TANTRUM by spoiled children inhabiting adult bodies. If the attack on the Capitol revealed one fact, it’s that this is not about the “economic anxiety” of the working class.

@snowflakehunter It’s the height of political tomfoolery to mix the two issues. And let’s be real clear about why the immigration issue has reached this point. It’s a great campaign issue for Republicans. Why would they want it to be solved?

Agreed. (You might want to do a quick edit. You used “never” twice, which is a confusing double negative in English.)

@illdrumatik391 They were psychologically predisposed to the brainwashing by infantile personalities. Trump always told them what they wanted to hear about themselves, was approving of their lack of empathy, constantly reinforced their view that they were victims (and this is where racism enters into it, if it wasn’t already there).

When did Will Forte get elected to the Texas House of Representatives? 0:27

@R E Yeah, I don’t know much about Texas crazies, but the vast majority of Texans I’ve met during my travels in the western and southern parts of that state have been warm open hearted people. I’ve met a few Texans outside of Texas, and some were good decent people, and a few were assholes.

Texas is the only state (among those I’ve visited) that I’ve considered moving to. I love my home state, but on the main the people in Texas are just good people, regardless of politics.

She was light on details, and there’s some different ways overly high food prices can be addressed. If companies are exploiting price hikes due to supply chain disruptions (justifiably raising prices when their input prices go up, but maintaining those high prices when their inputs return to normal), that needs to be looked at. If companies are colluding to charge higher prices instead of competing honestly, that also needs to be investigated. But if her plan is to set or cap prices on food products, that is not so good. There is a difference between regulated capitalism and socialism. Direct government price controls leads to breadlines and black markets. Regulating capitalism means setting rules and penalizing those that don’t follow the rules. (And we can debate about what rules should be set—that’s the give and take of democracy.)

*integra-tay Just kidding, it’s integrity. No biggie if you don’t care.
