  1.  @serafinacosta7118  This isn’t pork barrel politics that are on display in Russian procurement. It’s something else entirely. Sure, U.S military contracts contain fat. No arguments that they’re padded. But what goes on in Russian military procurement is a completely different level. At the end of the day, the U.S. military takes delivery of what was ordered. Contracts get fulfilled (occasionally after delays and cost overruns). The Russian military signs for delivery of 50 refurbished tanks but receives 40. Money changes hands, and a percentage gets kicked up the chain of command, so everyone is happy.

  2. I think this has been the case going back at least to WWI, when years of stockpiles were expended by both sides in the first six months. It used to be that the king with the most gold won wars. Nowadays it’s industrial capacity, not gold. I think the West has buttloads more capacity than Russia, not to mention the capital to increase it.
