@Bayard1503 How much trade trans-Sahara was there between Europe and Africa before the “Age of Discovery”? How much trade with Eurasia was there across the Sahara? How does that trade compare with ocean trade that bypass the Sahara? I think you’ll find that the great majority of trade and cultural exchange was via ocean and coasts because it’s easier to sail vs cross a huge expanse of desert.

@billchepil5933 I imagine it’s changed a great deal in the past fifty years. And I imagine it will change more over the next fifty. Maybe this is self-evident, but Peter’s predictions (or anyone else’s) don’t and can’t take into account climate change. We just don’t know what long term changes we might see in Africa or anywhere else. This makes model formulation exceedingly difficult.
