@jimluebke3869 I don’t think that’s his implication at all. Maybe you’re sensitive about economic conditions in your state? He is saying that we aren’t good at manufacturing because we don’t have the total package, from high end to low end and everything in between. He’s not making a judgement or prescribing that the cure is to keep your state poor. Ask yourself, if wages are low, why isn’t Mississippi an industrial powerhouse already? He goes on to say that Mexico is our manufacturing partner where we find the lower wage manufacturing that helps us stay competitive with China. He describes the trade between Texas and Mexico and how that state and that country benefit. He sort of leaves out the fact that Mexico and Texas also trade their manufactured good with the rest of the world. Mississippi has problems. But the causes of those problems is something other than “the liberals in Washington” or wherever. Nor is the cause of the problems “Capitalism”. If you really want your state to do better, you need to look for the causes. Once you identify them, you develop solutions. And you vote for politicians that understand the problems, their causes, and potential solutions. You’ve got complex problems. You shouldn’t trust easy answers that shift blame onto the left or the right or immigrants or whatever, although part of the problem might be entrenched politicians of both parties.

@joel6513 If the suburbs you mention are still part of Houston’s tax base, you’re doing OK. Problems can arise when those suburbs incorporate into their own political entities, cutting into Houston’s tax base. Then Houston’s schools, infrastructure, and services suffer.
