  1. Capitalism has been tuned to create growth, but that doesn’t mean it cannot be retuned or tweaked for other purposes. It’s more useful to think of Capitalism as an engine, not as an ideology or religion. As an engine, it has proven itself to be quite adaptable.

  3. It can’t factor into the calculation because it’s a total unknown at this point. But let’s be clear—strong AI ain’t going to happen, so it’s not going to be symbiotic. AI is going to be “prosthetic” just like every other tool humanity as developed. Also, to further clarify, weak AI can’t be improved into strong AI, no more than you can imbue a hammer with a soul. We might develop very very good weak AI, but that doesn’t surmount the hurdle of consciousness.

Middle eastern immigrants don’t immigrate to the U.S. to create a regional branch of the Caliphate, they come here to partake and participate in our society and all the benefits guaranteed by our Constitution. Mexican nationals don’t come here looking to reconquer the land they lost after the war between Mexico and the U.S. (There is actually a fringe of conservatives that believe this to be true.) “Culture warriors” are some of the weakest crybabies the world has ever seen. Their fanaticism cloaks their own cowardice and their fear that their “culture” is unable to compete.

  9. Mexico isn’t joining BRICS. It will be extremely awkward integrating Mexico into BRICS until at least one or more vowel countries join first. India can’t carry the acronymic load all by itself, you know. But seriously, Mexico isn’t going to join BRICS anytime soon. BRICS itself is a nothing burger. Look up where the concept came from: it was a financial analyst describing a group of developing economies that might make good investments, back in 2001. Look up the organization’s accomplishments: nothing worth a blip on any radar screen.
