That could be interpreted as admitting your baseline was pretty low to begin with. 😆 Pete has pretty good deep knowledge in a couple of specific areas and a decent generalist grasp in those areas outside his specialties. But be aware that sometimes he oversimplifies (it can’t be helped due to the short video format), and once in a while when he gets out of his lane, he talks out of his ass. That might be putting it too strongly. Maybe it’s better to say he goes out on a limb. If you are using Pete to increase your world knowledge, I suggest you use him as a starting point and not merely rely on his insights.

@Leftatalbuquerque Why does the House of Saud love the musical Annie? The Sunni come out, tomorrow. So you gotta hang on until tomorrow (if Allah wills it).

@thomasherrin6798 There are intermediate steps before we reach the point of nationalization/appropriation. Domestic operations could receive subsidies to see them through a market crash in exchange for domestic price discounts when the market reaches swings to the upside. Would this fly with the WTO, though?

Cheap oil hurts one sector but helps others. I’m not sure if overall impact is negative. However, one of our two neighbors could be gravely damaged to the point of instability by a precipitous drop in the petro market.

I wouldn’t overestimate it either. Jared got thrown his bone and with that the House of Saud has paid its debts to the House of Trump. The Biden administration seems to be putting the bad blood (journalist blood) behind it and is re-engaging with MBS. The point is, there’s no loyalty here. It’s all transactional, based on short and long term interests.
