@tuvoca825 and Greenspan saw the problem, warned about it (irrational exuberance speech), but only took half measures. Maybe it seemed effective at the time, maybe the incremental increases in productivity were enough to allay deeper fears. All that said, Peter tends towards the doom and the gloom and worst case scenarios. He’s not plotting a middle course trajectory. And he’s not considering all the inflationary pressures: increased transportation costs and cost of war. Another thing he has not talked about is the dead boomer money. When a rich boomer dies, their assets don’t just disappear. The assets go to two places—the government and to the heirs. This could dovetail into the housing crisis in a positive way, but it’s going to require tweaks to government policies at all levels, especially at the zoning board level.
