I’m not 100% on this, but I think there are more Armenian-Americans in the U.S. than there are Armenians in Armenia. This is partly due to asylum policies under Carter and Reagan that allowed Armenians in the U.S.S.R. to flee religious and political persecution, but also an Armenian diaspora that has seen bolder and more entrepreneurial Armenians immigrating all over the globe for centuries. In a way they were the first globalists, setting up their own trade routes between far flung outposts. Anyway, I would guess (based on what I know, but no hard data) that Armenian-Americans consider themselves Americans first. They might feel strong loyalties to their mother country, but they have even stronger loyalties to the U.S.A. That said, they embrace and will fiercely defend their ethno-cultural identity, including their ties to Armenia.
