The amount of energy going into China is quite small. There just isn’t infrastructure, and it will take 10 years and many billions of dollars to build any such infrastructure. China is buying future deliveries at a great discount. I don’t think the amounts they’re buying are anything more than a temporary thin lifeline while also being long term leverage over the Kremlin. What have you heard about manufacturing agreements between Russia and China? Do you mean component smuggling?

What does Pete do that is different from you? It’s easy to blame others for not recognizing your genius (and it might even be true), but if you’ve been having trouble getting your ideas across, take a hard look at what Pete actually does and how he does it, and then compare it to your own efforts. First thing is that Pete puts in a lot of work, studying and analyzing the data, and then picking out what he thinks are the important trends. Second thing is what you call his eloquence. Some of this might be a natural gift, but I’ll bet money that he has a lot of practice. However, I think much of his eloquence comes from the work mentioned above. Because he’s extensively thinking and analyzing the material, he’s boiling down the complicated into the simplified. A third part is his charisma. Maybe you have that. I don’t. 😅 Pete’s charisma is a major reason why he reaches a large audience. I think you and I are thinking about much smaller audiences. And the hard truth is that Pete puts in a lot of work to be able to condense his ideas into 5-10 minute videos, work that I’m just not going to do. Anyway, the upshot is this: 1) It’s not just you, 2) respect Pete’s expertise, 3) give yourself some credit for however much work you put into grasping the material, 4) understand that not everyone can take in your ideas, but that doesn’t make them dumb. You can get better but it’s a waste of time to disparage yourself or your audience if they don’t get it. Anyway, I hope that helps!

I also suspect this, but it’s probably been very low volume. The U.S. complaining about it is to keep it low volume. If it was large amounts of military aid, the U.S. would have been making these criticisms/warnings earlier.

Don’t worry, they’ll muddle through somehow. 😉 I think the rise in interest rates will provide some of the encouragement you wish for. Personally, I’ve cut way back on discretionary spending and paid down a lot of my high interest debt, finding lots of ways to economize. To be honest, I’d become undisciplined but I’m changing that. I count myself fortunate that I started taking this seriously 6 months ago; I don’t feel blindsided.

What “Brics deal”? Do you mean the nothing-bank with nothing-reserves to back up a nothing-currency? OK, you may try to argue that money itself is a fiction, but it’s like a good movie vs a bad one. You’re willing to suspend your disbelief when watching a good movie. If the movie is bad, you watch it for the lolz. WRT to Saudi Arabia, that’s called a bet or a hedge. The bet is that, short term, the Chinese haven’t secretly manipulated the Yuan as much as the Federal Reserve has raised interest rates. The saudis are calculating that they can make a neat quick profit on the spread and it’s worth the risk on a short term contract. I wouldn’t read too much into it yet.

@tylerschmidt2394 An important feature of the $ as reserve currency is that when the Federal reserve makes adjustments (or manipulations, if you prefer), it does so transparently. It usually telegraphs its moves months ahead of time, so there is no surprise. The world knows it’s coming. Contrast that with the Yuan. China’s manipulation happens in secret and no one outside of Beijing really knows the full extent of what the Chinese Central Bank is doing at any particular moment. So the Yuan is not a realistic candidate. The Euro? I don’t think the EU want it to be the world’s reserve currency because it would make one or more of its member states too powerful. Could a coalition of countries create a synthetic reserve currency? Good luck with that!

I would point you to study the air campaign component of the 1991 gulf war that lasted 5 weeks before coalition ground forces engaged Iraqi ground forces. Coalition air forces flew 100,000 sorties before a single coalition soldier stepped into Kuwait or Iraq. This broke the Iraqi Airforce and air defenses. They never recovered and consequently, the 2001 invasion faced very little in the way of opposition from the air or from air defenses. The sort of attack you’re thinking about would take considerably more time than a few hours of preparatory bombing. It would take more than a few days, but then you’d lose the element of surprise. The Special Operation relied on many things going right in addition to surprise. Most of those things did not go right. It’s unlikely that a bombing campaign of less than a week would have made a difference. A preparatory bombing campaign that ruined the element of surprise would also negate a major premise of Putin’s plan: to accomplish victory so quickly that the West would be forced to accept it. The war was supposed to be over before anyone realized what had happened. So I think either way, the original plan would have failed. There is nothing other than a shit ton of luck that would have brought Putin victory. And currently, even luck is not going to help Russia win. The best thing for Russia now would be to withdraw immediately, although that might not be so good for Putin holding onto power.

The thing to remember is that the U.S. and the West didn’t pick Russia as an enemy. Russia chose them and it didn’t choose them for geopolitical reasons. It picked them for internal political reasons, to maintain the illusion among the Russian people that Russia was a great nation with a great and mystical destiny. If the U.S. and the EU had considered Russia to be an existential enemy, they would have given Ukraine all the current support in 2014. Putin’s FP has not been to work constructively within a framework of rules and laws, but to look for opportunities to cause trouble, either diplomatically or covertly. It’s important to keep this in mind when talking about diplomatic solutions and how possible they might be.

Apple has the cash reserves and fat margins to continue doing what they did in China: pay their manufacturers up front to build more production lines. The difference is that it will take longer to take up the slack. This has been a key to Apple’s supply chain: you don’t just outbid your competitors for mfgrs’ capacity, to pay them to build the capacity in the first place. You loan them the money to buy the tools and build the physical plant to house those tools. Apple has already been doing this outside of China, so really it’s a matter of acceleration, not starting from scratch. This is why the Apple BoD chose Tim Cook to lead Apple after Steve Jobs left the company for personal reasons. 😉 Cook was the COO, the architect of Apple’s supply chain. He isn’t a techie guy or a product designer.

Keep in mind that the speech was tailored to his domestic audience and his “war with the West/U.S. is the Great Satan” is an accepted staple. It’s been part of the National self-image for so long that most will either accept it or not reject it. It would be a great blessing if Putin dropped dead of natural causes, but I think of a line from a favorite movie: “He’s been dying of the same heart attack for the last 30 years”. Slightly less likely is that he die of “natural causes”, i.e., caused by the people around him (and physics!).

I’d use Russo-Sino over Russo-Xian. I understood you, but X is sometimes used as shorthand for “Christ” (example X-mas), so it could be read as Russo-Christian. 😊 I wouldn’t put too much stock in the “natural” alignments. Each of these nations have very separate interests. I think India and the U.S. have a stronger basis for cooperation, but India has a natural interest (and history) of not wanting to become a client state of the U.S. The same could be said of Russia vis-a-vis China, but Putin has painted Russia into a corner. I think that at the very least Russia is going to lose its influence over its Central Asian clients to the Chinese. Do you think India has an opportunity here? How would it stop China from gaining influence in the ‘Stans? Maybe that would be another basis for cooperation between India and the U.S.

So the sirens are daily or almost daily, and apparently Russia did launch a large enough number of aircraft to trigger the sirens.

What did you see specifically, and what was your time frame? It’s easy to predict rain every day and proclaim your superior intelligence when it finally rains. It’s also easy to predict the end of the world because eventually it will happen. Pete presents a case and he presents a time frame. He shows his work. Predictions without data and analysis are wild ass guesses. You can also make a correct prediction based on a bad model. If I predict that the sun will rise tomorrow morning but my model is geocentric, I’d still be wrong. It’s important HOW you arrive at your conclusions, and if you can’t demonstrate sound reasoning you’re just another S.O.B. with an opinion and a hole for excreting solid waste.

The air raid warning sirens go off when a significant amount of Russian jets take off from their bases. As to why they did that, you’ll have to ask the Russians, but my understanding is that the air raid warnings are almost a daily occurrence.
