The military occupation itself is not illegal, at least not yet, but Israel will have to answer for the documented charges of war crimes. Any Gaza civilian death is a tragedy, and 60,000 is 60,000 times as terrible. But it’s not genocide. Gaza has a population of over 7 million, and 60,000 is less than 1%. It’s super easy to blame Israel for issues of hunger while ignoring Egypts role or the role of a Hamas leadership that skims off of humanitarian aid to reward its political base. A solution to the humanitarian suffering of the Gazans won’t be found by placing all the blame on Israel.

Something like that. The U.S. dismantled the Iraqi government, and wouldn’t let any Baathists serve in the new government, regardless of their commitment to the Ba’ath party. It was a ham fisted approach.

Israel has a huge opportunity here to promote peace, but not so much under Netanyahu. Settling the Golan Heights is counterproductive for peace. I believe in Israel’s right to exist and its right to defend itself. I do not believe that Israel is guilty of genocide in Gaza, BUT the IDF under Netanyahu has been committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. If the Israelis want peace, they have to get rid of Netanyahu. I’m not at all saying that Israel needs a liberal or socialist government, but Netanyahu has to go if Israel wants to move forward. Without peace, Iran cannot be contained. Netanyahu is Iran’s best friend once you move past the short term.

What genocide? Do you even know what the word means? War crimes and crimes against humanity by the IDF and Israel’s government? That seems to be the case. But it’s hyperbolic rhetoric to call it genocide.

Don’t put the word in quotes. Palestinian Arabs are real. They do have a right to self determination, just as Israel has a right to exist and to defend itself. Whether they’ve “occupied” Gaza for 100 years or 1000, they are a people distinct from other Arab nationalities. At the same time, we must fight the misconception that there were no Jews living in the Levant prior to Zionism, despite the exile. Some Caliphates encouraged the right-of-return, some not so much. Anti-Jewish pogroms were a key feature in the Palestine Mandate, and a bigger key to the formation of the state of Israel than the Holocaust in Europe was.
