  1. The Trump denials aren’t credible because he commissioned Project 2024. It’s not unusual for think tanks to offer their policy recommendations and even to lobby for their agendas towards candidates and presidents (and their cabinets) that are sympathetic. What is different this time is that their candidate is an empty vessel wrt policy. All he cares about is his personal power, his personal security, personal loyalty to him, and retribution against his opponents. Project 2025 comprehensively fills Trump’s vacuousness while also catering to his own priorities of power and revenge. It’s a roadmap to dictatorship. Let’s also be clear about understanding Trump’s denials and disavowals. The creators of Project 2025 aren’t on the outside trying to get in. They aren’t trying to win favor with Trump in furtherance of their goals of a Christian Nationalist dictatorship. They already surrounded Trump. He told them to create this plan, which he did. Trump has not thrown the Heritage Foundation, Project 2025, or the creators of the plan under any buses. He’s done the politically expedient thing of pretending to be unfamiliar with it, but he hasn’t distanced himself from the plan’s authors. How could he? They make up his staff.
