A lateral question: is there a legal reason preventing a Republican Senator or four from threatening to caucus with the Democrats if these seditionist Senators don’t stop wiping their asses with the Consitution? I’m not saying that they would switch parties, only that they would join with the Democrats to select a new Senate Majority Leader (making Mitch McConnell the Minority Leader). This would instantly cut the power of Senate assholes like Ted Cruz (who should know better: he’s a frickin’ constitutional scholar). I realize this is a wild scenario. What if Mitt Romney and Ben Sasse and whomever else were forced to carry out the threat? Would this literally fracture the GOP into two factions? Clearly there’s a lot of downside for any Republican Senator that split from the Trump GOP, but there could be a lot of upside as well (besides just protecting democracy from a party bent on a dictatorship). What upside? They could push their agendas and force Democrats to negotiate compromises with them. They could demand committee assignments. No, they wouldn’t have control, but they’d have a say in the governance of the country.
