@satanicmicrochipv5656 All that siphoning of money from the defense budget is coming back to bite Putin on the ass. I’m sure the U.S. has corruption in its defense procurement, but not like in Russia, where there are empty warehouses that were supposed to be filled with spare parts. Then there’s the problems of morale and discipline. The convoys aren’t stalled because of lack of fuel. They’re stalled because of lack of radiator fluid. Russian radiator fluid contains alcohol. The troops are hitting the coolant and that’s why the vehicles aren’t moving. That’s a discipline problem (as well as a logistics one—getting the radiators filled and trucks moving before the fluid disappears again). I feel bad about laughing, but Russia is so fucked. Even if they do manage a victory over Ukrainian defense forces, they haven’t won. All that does is start the next stage of the conflict.

@checkout5871 Wrong. It’s the other way around. Russia belongs to Ukraine. If Putin wants reunification based on geography and history, he should surrender unconditionally and let Kyiv govern Russia.

@bmanfitz apparently the dots and crosses were sold as military surplus to enrich some oligarch. It was only after the war was launched that it was discovered that there was a shortage of dots and crosses.

Putin was promising dollars or rubles? If he’s promising hard cash death bonuses in dollars, whoa. That’s amazing. If he’s promising rubles, I don’t think anyone will care.

@Phil-ui4tm Agreed. China is sitting pretty with the status quo and small strategic challenges in the China Sea. Russia’s attack actually increases scrutiny on China. I bet Xi is pissed at Putin.

@First • 15 years ago It was an old Cold War scheme to represent the West (1st), the Communist Bloc (2nd), and the Non-aligned nations (3rd). It originally had nothing to do with economic development, and was never a good way to talk about economic development. Eventually we forgot about the Second World. First World became a joke set up, 3rd world became a derogatory term to belittle Southern Hemisphere countries and parts of England. That said, Putin’s Cat is not wrong. The Russian Army does look like a third world army. This is partly due to the USSR and Russia arming the third world. A convoy of Russian tanks looks exactly like a convoy of Bolivian tanks because they’re the same tank models.
