@csi1392 TYPING IN ALL CAPS MAKES IT TRUE, COMRADE. TRUMP IS THE EIGHTH WONDER OF THE WORLD. WE SHALL BUILD A TOURIST RESORT ON HIS GRAVE.

@primordialmeow7249 He does make good points, but he only uses the points to throw up obstacles. Where is the Toomey Proposal to get money and resources to the most desperately needy?

I guess we figure that Republicans like Toomey have been fucking with Trump this long, not saying shit when Trump incites his fanatical followers, it’s their own lookout. It’s nothing new, other than it’s now being directed at leaders of Trump’s own party. To be honest, I’m surprised Trump didn’t go harder and get more specific. I’d have expected something more along the lines of “GET TOOMEY!”

There are already term limits. It’s called voting. You and the people in your congressional district get to determine the term limits on your particular congressperson. Have you tried this yet? Do you know the name of your representative? When was the last time you communicated with her or him? Many Americans complain about accountability, but few seem willing to do the work to make politicians accountable. It’s as if you don’t want to be held accountable for your own elected officials! Is it too much work?

Ehhhh, more like it’s starting feel like auditions for a Broadway musical based on the French Revolution.

I don’t think he’s wrong, but I haven’t seen him propose an ALTERNATIVE solution. If he gives reasons for why a proposal won’t work without offering a better idea, those reasons are just excuses.

@Watermelon_Man92 Yes. If capitalism is like an engine, it’s going to have different requirements under different conditions, especially extreme conditions. It’s just like with a car needing a different motor oil for extreme cold than it does during normal temperatures. Unfortunately, there is a tendency among some conservatives to worship capitalism as if it were a religion, rather than treat it as it is: an engine that powers society. They worship an “ideal engine” that will never exist under real conditions.

@miltonbradley6849 I already had direct deposit enabled with the IRS/Treasury Dept., so I didn’t need to do anything. This was after weeks of research to find out what I needed to do! At the end of the day, despite my worries, the money just showed up. And it was a godsend—my refrigerator broke the day before the money was deposited into my account. It’s likely I’d have been living out of an ice chest for months without that payment.

My conservative sister doesn’t understand why I buy boxes of “cubrebocas” and hand them out to families on my block. I tell her, “I’m protecting me!”.

@Callum Matias Are they, though? Are they earning the same as they were a year ago? Are their expenses the same? How many are earning less or are having to help support family, friends, and neighbors on their earnings? We’re not even through the worst of it yet—we are still at peak time for holiday travel and we all know a lot of idiots are going to be gathering for New Years parties. Let’s check in two weeks and see how many still have their jobs, as infections, hospitalizations, and deaths catch up to the December-to-remember exposure. In the meantime, stay safe and all the best to you and your family in this terrible time.

No shit. Vivid comparison checks out.

Why doesn’t Toomey propose targeted legislation, if he thinks the $2000 proposal is too untargeted? What he’s saying is not unreasonable, but he doesn’t put his objections into action!
1
Can we at least get legislation that would force Republican congresspeople to watch Trading Places?

@sebastianliebmann6014 Less targeted relief allows the individual to decide where to stimulate the economy. That’s the basic principle of market based economies, in contrast to command economies you’re more likely to see in socialist countries. I’m not against more targeted measures, but the fallacy to your thinking needed highlighting. Broader stimulus allows the marketplace to decide which sectors deserve to be stimulated. If the politicians and/or bureaucracy have too much control over relief money, they can potentially play favorites (for example, Ted Cruz funneling PPP money to his biggest PAC contributor).
