The poor Finns ran out of munitions and never had a large army (or large population to mobilize). Even though they beat the Russians militarily, they couldn’t have survived another onslaught. So they made a peace deal with Stalin, giving up some land. I don’t think Ukraine is in any danger of running out of ammunition or equipment, nor is there a shortage of soldiers. Russia does not have limitless stores of equipment or soldiers to spare for the time being. Putin would need to declare war, and it would take time to mobilize reserves and equip them. But in terms of naked brutal aggression against a smaller country? Yeah, I can see why you’d make the comparison.

His first act was to attack the train station! First day on the job and he already committed a war crime!

What’s amazing is that there was no overall commander before his appointment. No one was coordinating the Russian forces.

The Nu-SSR.

@Basauri48970 Putin’s blood and soil ideology isn’t too far from Hitler’s ideology, but he’s a rather slipshod copy of Hitler. Hitler’s army was horrifyingly effective in Poland, France, and during Operation Barbarossa. So let’s call his forces and supporters what they are: Putzis.

Aaaaaaand Vornikov committed a war crime on the first day of his posting. Down with the Putin. Down with the Putzis. Long live Ukraine!

No, he’s not replacing anyone. He’s being placed in overall command. It’s astonishing that there wasn’t an overall commander until now.

There was no overall commander coordinating all the fronts!

Sadly, no. This General Dvornikov is not replacing anyone. He’s the first overall commander. Think about that for a moment: there was no overall commander coordinating the Russian forces in Ukraine. That partly explains the chaos and ineffectiveness of the Russian Army. This appointment is potentially very bad news if he can get the Russian invasion organized. It’s also bad news because on his first day of command, he ordered the attack on the Kramortorsk train station that killed 52 civilians and injured hundreds more. He became a war criminal the first day on the job.
