I doubt this was caused by an oil change, you can't mess up an oil change that bad. Leaving the drain plug out would be an understandable issue.

The only way to know when to change your oil is to send a sample of the used oil to a lab for analysis. Most people also forget the "or 6 months / 1 year", etc

How often you should change your oil depends on what the results from an oil analysis says. Stop guessing and get the oil tested in a lab.

There are way better DIY systems, JohnDow has one that creates a vacuum to suck the brake fluid though the lines using Venturi - JDI-050EV for those that are interested.
