@dereinzigwahreRichi bit more complicated than that, the beer was disinfected by the boiling of the grains they just dident know it at the time. the grog, yes was disinfectant because its high ABV, wine on the other hand, not high enough of an ABV to sterilize things (generally 30% is when antimicrobial effects start to be noted, but 40% or above is ideal) but the water in rome where cut wine was most commonly drank was piped in from springs and thus had very little room for contamination
