Well to be fair its kind of resonable humans have a fixation on getting poles in holes. Its kind of how we, you know, continue existing

I actually quite like it as an analogy for how its largely social pressure that keeps people civil and yet at the same time without said social pressure people seek to create it

@ButterflyScarlet No, it lets them write in historical context. Haveing black people be treated properly in a novel set in the early 1800s would be just as inaccurate as writing a book set in the 2010s where people still legally owned slaves. Now if you are doing your own story Based on those times but are takeing the more "inspired fiction" rout then by all means go to town, but if you are doing a book set in a time and a place depicted realistically than you must hold to the truth of the era.

I think the answer lies somewhere in the middle. i firmly believe it is wrong to judge historical figures by modern standards, but its fine to analyze what actually where the standards of the time, and its fine to make comparison Now at the same time i see no problem with an author up dateing his work with changes they see fit, that being said they also must be aware of the criticism they will receive

"its very easy for the story to fall apart if time travel is not handled carefully or handwaved convinceingly" So, the ending to samurai jack "lets have our charicter never able to reach the time portal because he always selflessly helps others" "all the people he helped now do not exist because he finally got back to the past" So then why help in the first place?
