A fire department can be looked at as a communist or socialist organization, all pitch in for a cause thought! But the federal government has protections built in like the filibuster in the Senate or electoral college in the vote for President! Our founding fathers were incredibly intelligent people !

@pelvist in the federal government you vote for a delegate in the electoral college not a candidate! If your side doesn't have enough votes to win in California your vote is cancelled and the whole electoral college in California will vote for only one winner ! NOW GO AHEAD AN EXPLAIN HOW THAT IS DEMOCRACY, THEN TELL US YOUR GRADES IN HIGH SCHOOL, DID YOU EVEN GO ? Get an education, you are just as ignorant of the electoral college as you are of the difference between our state and federal elections !and we are talking federal not state governments!

@pelvist if it was a DEMOCRACY their would be protections to stop a representative constitutional republic from forming ! ITS A CONSTITUTIONAL REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC BECAUSE THERE ARE RULES IN THE (CONSTITUTION THAT PREVENTS DEMOCRACY FROM TAKING OVER) AND PROTECTS SMALL POPULATIONS STATES ! This is the reason for the electoral college and the filibuster in the Senate, to stop large states from bulling small stases! Otherwise California/ new York would dominate our fed government , the Senate only get two senators per state but the the house is by population! Then the Senate only makes laws and the house only controls the purse! Our third branch, The prez can veto with the possibility of the Senate and house combined to override the veto !Its set up this way because of the things kings used to control you !its genius in simplicity and implications! BUT ITS A REPRESENTATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC NOT A DEMOCRACY! DEMOCRACY is two wolves and a sheep deciding what is for dinner !
