  2. Growing up (in the US) I always saw it spelled Montezuma. It's only in recent decades that I've seen it spelled with a "c." Both, I think, are approximations of the original Aztec (Nahuatl) name, as filtered through the Spanish. Neither is exactly "correct," but as a site I just looked at says, "Montezuma," while more common among English speakers, is probably less correct. So, basically, use which ever one you prefer. (And it's always a good idea to question your knowledge).

  3. I'm surprised Simon didn't mention this issue. In the US, at least, it was always Montezuma, with an "N" until recent decades. Now I see it more often with a "C". Relax, though. I'm sure neither is how the guy himself would have spelled it.

  5.  @lilyfrettlohr4336  Take a rest, Lily. The Aztecs didn't use the Greek alphabet, so neither one is correct. Both are approximations of the original Aztec/Nahuatl name, and both are "acceptable," though the "C" is more common in recent years. And might I suggest you learn your English grammar and punctuation before you post again to tell someone to learn his or her History.

  7. Do you have an autograph? Neither one is exactly correct, both are approximations of the actual Aztec/Nahuatl name. And I don't suppose it occurred to you to browse through a few other comments to see that at least a dozen other people have already raised this point.

  8. Spooky! Just yesterday I finished rereading his book "Spangle," (first time in 25 or 30 years), and thought , "Maybe I'll reread "Aztec" next." Happily, I don't have to look any further than my bookcase. Great book, but, yes, very long. Sadly, the sequel, "Aztec Autumn," or something like that, is very disappointing.
