  2. The late record producer John Hammond was also a Vanderbilt. His mother was a great-granddaughter of the Commodore. Very famous in his day, he is credited with "discovering," or least being an early champion of, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, and many, many more, including many renowned Jazz and Blues musicians. His son of a similar name, once a modestly famous blues musician, was, of course, also a Vanderbilt descendant.

  3. Kind of true, but I think it's a chicken-or-the-egg situation. Nowadays the name Vanderbilt, like Rockefeller, immediately says "money."
