It takes 6 months to train special purpose soldiers (artillerymen, tank drivers, etc) in normal times. When your country is under attack you don't mind 16 hours of training and 8 hours of sleep until you're ready. The current "speed course" for regular Ukrainian infantry units, being trained in the UK is only 5 weeks. That's enough to learn using infantry weapons, coordinated tactical movements, communication protocols and first aid. They're pumping them out by the thousands every 5 weeks now. But no, I actually don't think this has much to do with that. This is the result of every NATO military strategist baking their noodle as hard as they can while looking at realtime satellite tracking down to the boot size of the Russians. Logistics and intelligence wins wars. Not the numbers of troops per se.

@johnle6982 I did smile a little more today... Of cause he did... Because he, like every other Dane, is rooting hard for Ukraine.

It's a sorta-common Danish middle name. And it's got nothing to do with hockey...

Vent 72 timer. Så ved vi hvad der skete i går :P

Nope. But I would like to be munching popcorn next to the German AA systems they got recently. Seeing a Hind full of ammo blow up is probably very pretty...

Yeah, the next 72 hours are going to be very very interesting!

Russia seems to have a systemic habit of overestimating themselves and underestimating everyone else. I found it hilarious that Putin closed Nord Stream 1 after the G7 Summit declared a bitterly harsh price cap on Russian oil and gas of only €50/MWh... Like, dude, they did that to signal that Europe is ready to be cut off. We have found tolerable solutions to all the problems that comes with that. 32 nuclear power plants are being reactivated in France. More than 50 decommissioned coal plants in Germany are being brought back online, and Australia have made provisions to supply the coal. LNG terminals are being built at record speed in Rotterdam Harbour. And this double whammy of a counter offensive smells just the same: Russia has been reacting exactly according to plan, thinking they were in control of the situation, while every preparation was done to make sure that was decisively not the case.

Yup. This is what "a battlefield spanking" looks like.

Heh. It's worse than that. Russia is heavy on trench positions. The next two months are going to be rainy as hell. Then the frost sets in. Imagine standing in mud to your ankles, soaked to the bone, in a fox hole for two months while the Ukrainians probe your position with artillery every couple of hours to see if you're still there..... and then the frost sets in. And the Ukrainians are being rotated frequently. They come back well fed, well rested, in Scandinavian and Canadian winter gear, ready for another round.... Russian soldiers are about to learn the very definition of endless bleak missery.

Mariupol? Are you sure it's not Melitopol?
