It depends on the level of fear. Mild fear keeps you in check. Overwhelming fear make you take risks if you perceive a bad outcome of those risks to be comparable to what you were afraid of anyway. Because there's still the chance that the positive outcome may happen which will improve your situation. If Putin "makes his point" a couple of times more it is not unthinkable that some people will get paranoid and think they might be next, despite not even having registered on Putin's radar.

They simply ignored it to death. No media outlet was allowed to mention it in any capacity. It only happened on the internet, so to speak.

Karma is a feelgood story we tell ourselves to cope with perceived injustice. That said, I'm also certain that Putin has bad things coming his way. He will not die of old age as a free man. He will either not die of old age, or he will die in prison. If I was a betting man I would put money on the Ukrainians getting to him somehow. Budanov seems precisely as ice cold and audacious as is needed to pull of that kind of stunt.

@SeeLasSee Not as many as you'd think if you compare to western internet users. It was circulated on telegram and twitter to some extend, but your average Russian internet user doesn't understand enough English to follow the instructions on a pack of instant noodles. Which is precisely why it worked to just ignore it to death.

Thanks for the laugh.

What rock have you been living under? This is common knowledge. Being a neo nazi was super cool among the ultra nationalists with military careers until Putin decided to repurpose the nomenclature for Ukraine.

Being a military advisor to the government, the de facto media liaison of the armed forces, an analyst with an area of responsibility and from a country who has close ties to two other countries that just joined NATO... I think he has his plate full. So while I enjoy his videos I'd still prefer him to do his other responsibilities first and foremost. Because if he screws up in his day job people could die.

@BernardoBr1982 Mine was a sort of joke too. I just have a very dry and morbid sense of humor :P

The bald pig got an unhealthy amount of clout from the "de-politicised" part of the population. People that would never riot, never speak up and never lash out got out to shake his hand and take their picture with him. This tells us that they are not nearly as de-politicised as western analysts portray them. They've just been brought to submission. That is absolutely not the same as not dreaming about a liberator who can upend the mafia known as the Kremlin. You can't become too popular in Russia. Only Putin is popular. You can't become too competent in Russia. Only Putin is competent. You can't become too powerful in Russia. Only Putin is powerful. These are the rules in every autocracy. And they apply to everybody. Everybody.
