I've had the pleasure of competing against the Finnish artillery... and had my ass handed to me. This was back in '96-'97 in a live fire cross-NATO exercise called Celestial Fire. The range, speed and accuracy of your artillery, coupled with your specific type of geography will make an invasion absolutely fucking hell. Sure, a force who is willing to throw bodybags at the problem until you run out of shells will eventually win... but man those numbers will be grim.

Something made out of thick concrete can be as old as it likes. It's still a heck of a lot better than an umbrella when it comes to being shot at! :P

This is "tragic comedy gold". Didn't know such a thing existed, but apparently it does. Also huge thanks for keeping it neutral (as you always do).

I hope the various NATO members employ the "Swedish neutrality trick'" too and tell military personnel that "Because we've given all our gear to Ukraine you're all on paid leave until we get new equipment. You'll be given at least three months warning before having to report back. Now go have a vacation.... wherever you please." If I had still been in service I would've been on the next train had I gotten that message.

@kaltaron1284 We have some bunkers from WWII here in Denmark that we've been trying to get rid of... Demolition attempts does absolutely nothing and jackhammers barely make a scratch before the chisel is blunt, so I don't know if WWII German concrete will stack up to the tamped Roman stuff over the centuries... but so far it's lasted 70 years without showing any sign of degradation.

@kaltaron1284 Yeah, that figures. I'm by no means a concreteologist myself, but it seems plausible that fortifications are generally built with the best materials available at the time.
