@TheFizzerKing No the reason why Danish became so weird to pronounce is because we've been better at making beer than you for over a hundred years! ;-P

Long eye relief scopes make a ton of sense for armies that rely on "fewer in number but better trained". I routinely shot 198 out of 200 at 300m (longest range we practiced) with my G3 when I was in the army. And it was clear that the rifle had more to give, but the iron sights did not. We went to a Canadian made M16 clone after that, which had a 2x optics. That thing did not improve my accuracy, but it was in the way like hell when on the reaction range. A much narrower forward mounted optic would have been ideal for that. Better field of view where you just pre-aim over the top of the optics, look down, fine adjust if needed, shoot!

@nicolaiby1846 No it makes perfect sense when you've had 10 beers. Even Norwegians speak perfect Danish when they're drunk! It's a little harder for the Swedes. They have to near dead from alcohol poisoning to speak proper Danish. If they're just normal 45-degrees-off-axis-drunk it still sounds like they're mixing German and Danish for some reason...

@clothar23 I don't know if those options were available in the mid 90s when we adopted it. But yes, it felt overkill for such a flimsy little bullet that needs windage adjustment long before it need magnification. It did, however, make the poor shooters better right out of the gate - which I suspect was the point of it. It had a more lukewarm reception among those of us who were already good shots with the G3. I'll still take that heavy clumsy thing with iron sights over the C7 simply because it ends the conversation about what constitutes "sufficient cover" much quicker....

@EggBastion Long Projection Optic would be my guess.

@clothar23 Nope. When you're in the army you use the same gear and configuration as everyone else unless you're the special forces (so in case you lose yours you can get one from a wounded/dead fellow). Ours did have iron sights in case of damage/failure. And generally buying things yourself is not really in the Danish army mentality. The optics was (IIRC) a 40mm x2 in hard rubber casing. It had a faint yellow tint that actually worked fairly well at creating contrast, but, as I said, the optic itself was in the way of getting quick overview. But it had a small ridge thingie on the top that worked good enough for city/building stuff where you just look over it and yank the trigger. Never missed a man sized target at 50m with that.
