@davidcox4436 7.62 NATO is not an intermediate cartridge. It's a sligthly-less-than-completely-stupid cartridge. It managed to cut down on recoil while not compromising on effective range. The 6.5 Swedish does that even better, and honestly would have been a better cartridge than both 7.62 and 5.56 as it strikes a balance that would make it usable for both LMGs and combat rifles. And yes, I've shot all three extensively.

@P_RO_ Only Sweden every used it (because they opted out of NATO) in LMGs. But yes, it's a very fast projectile, and with steel cores they have stupid penetration for their weight. Exactly what the 277 is supposed to solve. That said, a modern reanimation, with the latest gun powder tech, could probably get the case length down to 45mm which would make it absolutely ideal for LMG, combat rifle and short carbine.

@dallesamllhals9161 I've never shot 6.5mm in service (obviously). I was initially trained on the G3 but was retrained for the AR15 before departing to Kosovo, so I've only shot 7.62 from LMG and 5.56 from rifle in service. I didn't start shooting 6.5mm until a few years ago when a friend lent me his rifle.... which led to another Sako in my collection.
