  1. As someone who's served with both a G3 and a C7 I applaud the M5 without any kind of hesitation. Heavier and having less ammo is not that big of a problem when evaluated against the biggest problem with 5.56: A sturdy card board box constitutes cover! A more powerful cartridge than 7.62x51, with an armour piercing projectile, is going to be a godsend. Now we're back to "yeah, try and hide behind that tree and see what that does!" days. Single layer brick walls? Yeah, go for that muddafarker! Hiding behind the back end of a civilian car? You only do that once! Jumping into a plough furrow only deep enough to hide your arse? Someone's getting shot anyway! That this thing can take body armour is nice and all. But odds are that this is going to be used primarily in places where the adversary is employing hit-and-run tactics. It's much harder to do the run part if most vegetation, landscape, random props and houses are easily pierceable by a 6.8mm coming in at near light speed.... Not to mention that it has to be gorgeously flat shooting which makes accurate range gauging much less of a concern.
