  1. I was a gunner on an M109 (155mm/6" self propelling Howitzer)... the breech came back 96cm/3ft in 0.7 seconds when firing maximum load. The barrel alone was 8.5tons and I have no idea what the chamber and breech block weighed, but they were (obviously) chunky bois. "You only get in the way of this once!" was the teaching doctrine :P
