  2.  @rosiehawtrey  These old huge engines take quite a while to heat up to the point where everything "fits together" properly. We had a very big kind-of forklift like that at a plant I used to work at. It was rarely used, but the only thing that could do a certain kind of job because it was so ungodly strong. It would smoke like crazy for the first 20 minutes it ran, so we would start it up and drive it to somewhere where the wind would make sure we didn't choke, and just let it idle for 40 minutes and then rev it for a couple of minutes to burn off all the sod in the manifolds. After that we could perfectly well drive it through the gate and use it on the factory floor. Didn't smoke at all.
