  1. Uh, what? You can only keep the coil on until the projectile is half way though. After that it just slows it down again. This obviously means that as the projectile is sped up you get less and less time for the next coil to act on it. I didn't bother breaking out the calculator as I don't know the spacing between the coils, but even if we assume that each coil can start as soon as the previous one stops, and pretend that each coil is 70mm apart, then the last coil has 1/1000th of a second to act on the projectile. I don't know if you did your calculations for magnetic pull on static objects or whatever, but it's fairly obvious that if you only have a millisecond to accelerate something the force you have to exert on it has to be a thousand times stronger than if you had a full second to do it. If you need all the oomph for just a millisecond obviously capacitors that can discharge at thousands of amps are needed.
