+Thorsten it's germans problem that germans did not plan to equip themselves, not problem of 'winter'. It was really cold only for a couple of weeks, while losers keep using it as an ultimate excuse, that winter was what defeated them. With same respect to winter, Russians could have said that colossal losses in Finnish war were because of winter, not because finnish infantry and officer corps was better trained. Nor Russians, neither soviets do not have ultimate skill of resisting winter. On the other hand Soviet troops used tactic that was aimed at destroying housing used by germans several kilometers behind the frontline in order to make their winter life harder.
Speaking of mud and winter, it all works both ways.
And yea. Kursk, Bagration, Oder-Niesse operation, all because of winter, sure.

Out of context bullshit.
USSR was standing for antinazi pact in Europe, but everyone ignored it, because they wanted to get rid of USSR using Hitler.
USSR was the only country that resisted anticomintern pact consisting of Germany, Italy, Japan and their puppets (obviously because it was aimed and created against USSR). USSR supported Spain when nobody else did and when Nazis openly intervened there, USSR supported China and literally fought with the Japanese. Smth done by Allies against Axis, except helping them gain territories, resources and power? Chamberlains peace piece of paper? Really?
In this context in 1938 poles refuse to let soviet troops through to aid Czechs, Czechs are betrayed by France who plays a lapdog of Britain there, while, like USSR has obligations to support Czechoslovakia, and poles do absolutely the same USSR does with Poland in 1939 - as poles claim they returned their part of Silesia, well, USSR returned its part of Ukraine and Belorussia, and Lithuanias modern capital to Lithuania. Why the fuck nobody calls Poland an ally of Hitler if it obviously acted like an ally of Hitler if we use your way of understanding things. And Poland unlike USSR tended to ally with Nazis, problem was - Nazis did not want even a situational alliance with Poland, as saw it inferior, and it proved to be more than inferior, with its caring and supporting allies who did not do a fuck to help them.
What happened to Poland is all polish fault, nobody forced it to spoil relations with USSR that much they did, nobody forced it to tend to Nazis in desire to attack USSR together. Poland got what it deserved, it makes me laugh when people keep crying about poor Poland. Ugliest state of pre-WW2 time in my opinion after Third Reich.
So what was it in historical context for USSR. USSR stands all alone against Nazis, nobody even tries to pretend that they are going to fight Hitler, Allies utterly refuse to sign treaties with USSR that would bring temporary safety to Europe and probably make Hitler less aggressive. By August of 1939 USSR is in situation when Nazis suggest to divide spheres of influence in eastern Europe with USSR in exchange for Soviet neutrality during Nazi aggression against Poland.
What options does USSR have
1) Refuse and let Germans capture whole Poland, Baltics and anything else in vicinity and have anticomintern pact reach your borders from the east and from the west.
2) Help anti-Soviet and rusophobic Poland no matter what, hoping for hell knows what, as everything Allies did before obviously points out that nobody would be even going to thank USSR for that, not to say that it could lead to unexpectable consequenses like potential war on two fronts.
3) Accept the deal, make sure that germans do not gain half of potential territories, resources and men and take them for USSR. In addition get treaty with Nazis that guarantees for some time that neither Germany not Japan would attack right now. (Well, maybe soviet leaders hoped for more, but even that was more than enough, not to say that during negotiations Molotov tended to ask impossible things, like USSR gains Romanian oil fields, obviously Stalin was not going to make presents to Hitler or let him become more powerful, he wanted to make sure that Allies, who already declared war on Hitler after Poland was attacked would be involved into exhausting war, while USSR would grow, nothing personal, just business for victory of communism. It was Hitler who was in position of making presents not to let USSR join Allies and make Germany fight on two fronts. Was USSR guilty that it was not going to sacrifice itself, or was Stalin guilty he did not want to sacrifice the deal of all his life to capitalist assholes and rusophobes in order to make Allies happy is a question I know answer to, and I guess its quite obvious if you are not looking from anti-Soviet positions that dominate current history interpretation)
