@tapultanul97 USSR does everything to get rid of speculation with grain like always was in Russian empire, causing annual famines and poverty, at the same time enforces modernization of agriculture, making it more effective, always lacking workforce at the same time. Intentional famine, lol.
Everything happening in USSR has such a plan in 30s - industrialization - which needs more workers which needs less peasants.
Mechanization makes majority of peasants useless, which forces them move into cities. All my grandparents found themselves in cities this way and this is great.
Situation in villages in 1920-30 is like - rich peasantry exploitates poor, forms criminal chain to make competition impossible (multiply with traditional russian peasants habits its literally the same as it was since medieval, but now criminals in peasantry exploitate others, not some landowner). Soviet state declares that rich peasantry would be exterminated and makes steps towards it, one of them is collectivisation, that destroys economic base from rich peasantry. Next step was to get rid of criminal base.
Depicting it as poor peasants like in Hugo's Miserables fighting evil state that wants to exterminate them from living is, lets say mildly, plain stupidity....
