As someone who's travelled a lot in SE Asia, I can tell you that Andrew is 110% correct about Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur. I never spent one single minute in the country that was not enjoyable. KL is a nice in-between from Singapore and Bangkok. Both certainly have their charms and I found a lot to like but Singapore is a bit too pricey for me to be in long term and Bangkok is a bit too poor. I was always getting hit on by Thai women who assumed I was there for a "certain" reason which I was not there for.
