  1. In most cases, I agree with the general analysis of this article. Many of the legacy brand countries will see their standing slide as newer, more vibrant economies rise. There is one glaring exception, though. I have great difficulty taking seriously any person, group or institution who attempts to tell me that China will continue to grow at an accelerated rate and that it will be the world's leading economy in X number of years when every major indicator suggests that it is in serious trouble and likely to go in the opposite direction. Its demographics are collapsing, its leader is the most autocratic, dictatorial and least economically astute since Mao, it has massive debt problems, it has no natural allies... no one "wants" to be its friend.... it is surrounded by hostile powers and it is no longer the cheap labor capital of the world. And after 40 years, it still hasn't mastered high value manufacturing. How can it be that these so-called "experts" can so easily recognize the weaknesses in other countries but not in China?
