This doesn't surprise me one bit. The more fearful governments become and the more boxed in they are by their own failures, the more desperate they get, the more they lash out and the more straws they grasp at. The government is really the only entity that can arbitrarily change rules at will to benefit itself and grant itself more powers. These are powers it will NEVER willingly relinquish. So don't EVER delude yourself about the benevolence of a government. They are like any other organism - they are genetically predisposed toward only two things; self preservation and reproduction.
