  1. It's still not enough. The portions of Putin's economy that he really needs can still function. Not well, but they can still function. These sanctions are shot full of all kinds of very convenient exemptions, omissions, loopholes and work-arounds. Until those are closed, we've not begun to get serious. And we'll see in a few months who will have had more staying power - Putin with no money or Europe with no gas, the world without 30% of its wheat and all kinds of other things. The public - read "electorate" - can get just as nasty here as they can there. Putin plays a long game - our empty suits can't see past the next polling cycle.
