  1. Technically no but they are all integral and in many cases vital, components of how information is disseminated so they have to be looked at in the same way as if they were news. There were once pretty clear lines between straight "news" and analysis and opinion but those lines have blurred to the point that they've effectively disappeared so it's just that much more important to view all of these things as one and the same. Something like 90% of what passes for journalism today is controlled by 5-6 mega corporations. Corporations care about one thing and one thing only; profit. There is no money to be made in simply relaying information. The real money is in hooking people with sensation and scandal. They do that by presenting the facts selectively and in a certain way, creating and maintaining narratives. News organizations at one time tried to give at least the appearance of some kind of balance. No longer. Today, it's as much about reformulating your beliefs and addicting you to a particular flavor of scandal thereby creating repeat customers for their product as it is about informing you. You are being propagandized and gas lit like never before and that's why it's important to recognize and understand the role of opinion in the news process.
