Rando fringe movements have always existed. You are comparing them to the norm religion and not to other Christian rando fringe movements like frankly, Mormonism or Some of the weirder Pentecostal sects.

Okay, okay. His "Twin" wasn't some mysterious hidden twin that's been in Albion for the 12 years and got back stowing away on a ship. His "Twin" was literally a disciple of his and according to John, also interacted with the risen him. Do you really think people are gonna mistake an adult they've seen near another adult a thousand times even after having close personal conversations?.

@GaviLazan And how many of the stories are about seeing some guy from a distance?. One is about meeting, traveling with and then logging for a while with disciples. Another is about meeting his apostles so closely that Thomas could stick his hand in Jesus' stomach, another is fishing with Peter and the apostles. These are people that knew well, personal appearances and expressing awareness of some of the clear(not vague like slightly different facial muscles, which people do notice) differences that would exist between twins like a huge scar/wound on the stomach. This doesn't work, at all.

Well, it is possible but I think it is less likely.

@miguelatkinson Sure Christianity as a whole might have been considered fringe but within the Christian movement the Thomas stuff and most of the others today characterized by modern Christians as heresies were fringe. There are even internal indications of that in the Gospel of Thomas opening by calling itself a secret gospel and Thomas never saying he was a twin of Jesus to the disciples even tho Jesus probably "said" that in the Gospel's narrative. So the Authors not only states they're fringe with the its a secret opening line but are then not even sure their already fringe audience would accept Thomas being Jesus' twin so didn't include that.

@k1_w3 you know there are 12 tribes of Israel right?
2
Catholics interprete it as Cousin Brother or Half brother, that's probably why.

@revcrussell Quote me the verse that shows that Revelations disagrees with the OT on the tribes. But anyways, I don't think most scholars think Jocob as described in the book even existed so then not agreeing that he had 12 sons doesn't even matter here. However, there certainly were 12 tribes of Israel by the time the Kingdoms of Israel and Judea were separated entities.

Why?

@hackman669 no it is not

@andrewsuryali8540 eh, I am pretty sure Thomas could be inserted as a character ignored in Matthew for their lack of importance.

@andrewsuryali8540 I am saying it is possible, they'll just havw to write it in a way to imply Thomas waa ignored by Matthew's narrative. Like, the Magi arrive looking for a one of a twin that is Divine and largely focus on Jesus giving him gifts while Thomas gets scraps or something like that.
