  1. Yes, they should. Education should be functional and in a highly Christian and historically Christian country like America, it is more functional to have an understanding of Christianity.

  2.  @PamelaContiGlass  as for why limit it to Xianity, as I said, practical knowledge. Trying to be overly broad to include everything ends up with summary treatment of everything(so a trivia quest) A religious studies at grade level will end up treating everything summary level while a Christian studies will trach people in detail of what they'll actually experience and probably also touch on other religions in summary even if just to make comparisons. And most other religions are better treated as cultural studies(vast majority of non-axial age ones) or philosophy(Confucianism)
